#FilamentFriday: HIPS

Happy Friday everyone!

Today we’re detailing our recent extrusion tests with HIPS  which stands for High Impact Polystyrene. HIPS is a great thermoplastic for prototyping with prints. To quote Plastics International on HIPS: “It is frequently used pre-production prototypes since it has excellent dimensional stability and is easy to fabricate, paint and glue. Natural (translucent white) HIPS is FDA compliant for use in food processing applications.” It’s also great for electronic cases for phones and computers because it has reduced electrical properties. No messing with circuit boards or the like!

Our Warehouse Manager Josh extruded the HIPS on our Filabot EX2 Extruder with a 2mm nozzle and controlled for smoothness and diameter using the Filabot Airpath. He’s pretty pleased with the results and will be printing a couple of test prints in the coming days.

And as always, if you’ve got questions don’t hesitate to reach out!

TGIF,
The Filabot Team
