Built to fit on a standard spooler, the Filabot metal spool is for those that need the ability to use high temperatures for drying of complete spools. This metal spool is made from laser-cut aluminum and mounts just like a standard Filabot plastic spool and is also compatible with the Filabot Spooler. This spool was designed with high-temperature, high-performance plastics like Ultem (Melting Point of 370˚ C) and PEEK (Melting Point of 343 °C) in mind. The higher drying temperature required by these types of materials, would likely damage standard plastic spools. A metal spool will retain its shape during these high-temperature drying cycles and will last an extremely long time
In plastics, there has been a driving demand for ever-increasing performance. This comes from industrial, military, aerospace, and medical industries, that want to operate in more extreme environments. Plastics and plastic compounds have been pushing into these high-temperature regimes. For example, PEEK has found uses in airplane parts as a low-weight replacement for Aluminum. It also has high lubricity, making it ideal for bearings. Ultem can withstand multiple steam autoclave cycles, and is finding uses in the medical industries. It is also well known for its dimensional stability, making it one of the few plastics approved in the commercial aerospace sector. For your most demanding customers, spool up on the Filabot metal spool. It’s the only way to make sure you can dry your high-temperature filament without damaging the spool. It can, of course, be used with regular low-temperature polymers as well. The spool holding capacity is 0.5kg of filament.
